We Made the Porsche GT3 Sound Incredible! Armytrix Valvetronic Exhaust Installed!

As you probably already know, Porsche builds some of the best sports cars in the world. The Porsche 911, specifically, is one of the most iconic cars of all time. Near the top of the 911 hierarchy, the GT3 and GT3RS offer performance to take on some of the best supercars in the world.

Porsche worked hard to give the GT3 and GT3RS insane levels of performance, but it still had to be a comfortable road car. This need for comfort forced Porsche to use very quiet exhaust systems on the GT3 and GT3RS.

As enthusiasts, we all want our cars to sound as awesome as they look. Luckily for 991 GT3 owners, there are lots of awesome options for aftermarket exhaust systems. This 991 GT3 came to the Vivid Racing shop for a VR Tuned ECU flash and an Armytrix Valvetronic exhaust.

Why Choose Armytrix?

What makes the Armytrix exhaust unique, is the Valvetronic system. The Valvetronic system allows you to switch between being quiet and being loud with the push of a button via the included remote or through the smartphone application; this works by tapping into a vacuum source on your engine and connecting it to the control module.

This OBDII module tells the exhaust valve module to allow the engine vacuum to open or close the exhaust valve. You can also set the exhaust valve module to an automatic mode which will open/close the exhaust valve based on predetermined RPM range or throttle position. For the 991 GT3, this means you can keep your car quiet in the neighborhood, but open the valves and let it scream on the open road!

The Result

After installation, we took this 991 GT3 out on the road to test the exhaust. Thanks to the Valvetronic feature, we could keep the GT3 quiet in town, but once we got out to the open road, we let it sing. We left the catalytic converters in place, since this is a road car and needs to abide with the law. Check out the full video below!

Client Spotlight: Honda Civic FK8 Type R with VR Tuned Flash, GramLights Wheels, and HKS Exhaust

The FK8 is the first Civic Type R to come to the states, and it’s without a doubt the best Civic Type R ever. Not only is it significantly more powerful than any other Civic Type R before it, but the chassis is exceptionally well balanced, the brakes are great, and the overall performance is superb. It’s arguably the best front-wheel-drive car ever produced. Enthusiasts know that even the best cars in the world can always be improved upon.

One of the first mods for many turbocharged cars is an upgraded exhaust system. By increasing exhaust flow, the turbocharger can spool up faster, resulting in decreased lag, plus the turbo can ultimately spin faster and make more overall boost. On this particular FK8 you’ll find an Armytrix downpipe and an HKS Legamax exhaust system. The combination of these two offers awesome sound and increased flow.

Another popular modification, especially for the FK8, is an upgraded set of wheels. From the factory, the FK8 uses 20” wheels which is a little big and disproportionate to the rest of the vehicle, making smaller 18” or 19” wheels incredibly popular. This particular FK8 features GramLights 57Transcend wheels in 19×9.5. To top everything off and squeeze as much power as possible out of the vehicle, this FK8 uses our VR Tuned ECU flash.

Armytrix LC500 Exhaust Now Available

The LC500 is designed to be a unique grand touring coupe with enough performance to take on cars from companies such as BMW and Mercedes Benz. It’s not intended as a full on sports car like the 911, and such lacks the sound associated with a proper performance car. In stock form, the 5.0L naturally aspirated V8 doesn’t make much noise. Lexus kept the exhaust pretty quiet to appeal to a wider range of buyers. As enthusiasts, we want to hear our car as we put the hammer down on twisty roads or open highways. Luckily, Armytrix has a solution for LC500 owners.

The problem with many aftermarket exhaust systems is the volume. Some exhaust systems are super loud, and some are super quiet. Once the exhaust is installed, you can’t change the volume or sound. Armytrix exhaust systems are different since they offer a Valvetronic muffler system which can change the volume of the exhaust on the fly by routing it through or around the mufflers. This lets you keep your quiet in the neighborhood and let it sing on the open road. The LC500, in particular, sounds awesome with the Armytrix Valvetronic exhaust set to open. Be sure to check out the video below for some sounds!

Armytrix Porsche 991 Turbo S Exhaust Installed

Porsche undoubtedly makes some of the best sports cars and supercars in the world. The average person would assume a Porsche 991 Turbo S would be more than powerful enough from the factory, but enthusiasts know there is always performance left on the table. Turbocharged vehicles respond greatly to aftermarket exhaust systems as they allow the turbo to spin faster, ultimately making more power. Armytrix is extremely popular in the Porsche community for their great sounding exhaust systems, but also the Valvetronic technology that is built into their exhaust systems.

Armytrix vs Stock

As you can tell from the photos below, the Armytrix exhaust uses much smaller mufflers than the OEM exhaust. Combined with lightweight piping, you end up with pretty great weight savings. The Armytrix exhaust also features the Valvetronic system which allows you to route the exhaust through the mufflers or bypass them entirely with the press of a button. The tips are also arguably much better looking than the stock tips.

Installation

For something like this we recommend a professional shop install the exhaust system, but it can be done at home assuming you have the correct tools on hand. Installation requires the removal of the tail lights and rear bumper. Once those are out of the way, it’s simply a matter of unbolting the factory exhaust and bolting on the Armytrix exhaust. Don’t forget to plumb the Valvetronic system!

McLaren 570S Armytrix Race Downpipes Installation + Sound Clips

Although a lot of supercar owners like to keep their exotic cars completely stock, some of them want to find the true potential of their cars. McLaren loves to use turbocharged V8 engines in their cars, and turbocharged engines love to be modified. Allowing the turbocharger to spin more freely will result in better throttle response and more horsepower, plus a better sounding exhaust tone. For this reason, we installed Armytrix race downpipes on our project McLaren.

Armytrix vs Stock

As you may be able to tell from the photos below, there is one massive difference between the OEM downpipes and the Armytrix downpipes: the ceramic coating. The Armytrix downpipes feature a full ceramic coating which gives it that unique appearance on the outside. The real benefit of a ceramic coating is the reduction in heat inside the engine bay. The downpipes get pretty hot and that heat will transfer to the air inside the engine bay, and ultimately make everything near the downpipes extremely hot. With the ceramic coating, however, a lot of that heat stays within the downpipes.

Aside from the coating, the Armytrix downpipes are feature a smoother design than the OEM downpipes, resulting in increased exhaust flow and ultimately more horsepower. THe Armytrix downpipes also use a much nicer flexible joint to allow the exhaust system to move as needed under load.

Installation Process

Professional installation is definitely recommended with these downpipes. The process requires removal of the rear fender lines to access some of the bolts. After the liners have been removed, it’s mostly a process of unbolting anything in the way, unbolting the OEM downpipes, bolting the new ones in, bolting everything else back together, and reinstalling the inner fender liners. Don’t forget to transfer the heat shields and O2 sensors! Below is a YouTube video showing off how awesome these downpipes sound after installation.
