Project Supra’s New Exhaust System Sounds Incredible! HKS / Armytrix

As you might’ve seen recently from our posts on Facebook and Instagram, our Project Supra recently received a lot of new modifications, including a full turbo-back exhaust system. From our experience without BMW inline-6 engines, we knew the Supra’s B58 engine would sound great with an aftermarket exhaust and we also knew an aftermarket exhaust could massively increase power output.

The exhaust setup we chose is a combination of parts from different manufacturers. Right off the back of the turbocharger, we replaced the very restrictive OEM downpipe with a high flow downpipe from Armytrix. Moving to the catback section, we replaced everything with an HKS catback.

Compared to stock, the HKS catback isn’t much louder, however, when paired with the Armytrix downpipe, this setup sounds incredible! With this exhaust setup, the pops and bangs from our VR Tuned ECU flash are made even louder, resulting in a wild sounding exhaust.

With our VR Tuned ECU flash, we found pretty big power gains while still using the stock exhaust. Once the new exhaust setup was installed, we found massive low-end and mid-range power gains. The gains eventually taper off at peak RPMs, however, the low-end power gains are more important since you’ll be using low-end and mid-range RPMs when driving on the street.

Be sure to check out the video below to hear our Supra in action and see the dyno runs!

Top 7 Best A90 Supra Exhaust Systems – HKS, Armytrix, Remark, and more!

When the new A90 Supra was initially announced, was a lot of initial skepticism about the BMW B58 engine under the hood. It has since proven itself as an awesome chassis powered by a fantastic engine. The A90 is relatively new, but a lot of aftermarket companies have already started to offer parts for it.

There are already quite a few aftermarket exhaust options for the A90, so to help you decide we compiled this list of our favorite A90 Supra exhaust systems.

1. VR Performance

The VR Performance Exhaust System for the A90 Supra features precision engineering, lightweight construction, advanced features, high-quality materials, and a loud exhaust note. Constructed from high-quality titanium, the VR Performance boasts a unique sound that complements the aggressive tone of the B58 engine under the hood.

This system features large 90mm diameter titanium piping and is divided into oval sections for optimal clearance under the vehicle. Featuring Valvetronic technology and a 76mm muffler section, the driver can adjust the sound level of their exhaust at the touch of a button.

Whether you’re ripping by on the highway or cruising through a neighborhood, this exhaust system provides the best of both worlds thanks to the Valvetronic system, giving you a level of flexibility that can only be offered by valved exhaust systems. The exhaust features a burnt titanium finish on the 4.5-inch tips to provide an elegant performance feel.

To top off the rest of this exhaust system, the muffler section offers 76mm piping to capitalize on the free-flowing design of the rest of the exhaust. The Valvetronic portion bypasses the muffler altogether to reduce back-pressure and amplify the exhaust tone of the B58 engine.

2. Capristo

Capristo is best known for their high-end exhausts for high-end cars, such as the Audi R8. They have decades of experience building exhaust systems for everything from street cars to Lamborghini Squadra Corse race cars. Their exhaust for the A90 Supra replaced everything from the OPF back and includes integrated exhaust valves.

The system is constructed from high-quality T304 stainless steel with a mirror finish. When paired with the Secondary OPF Spare Pipes, this exhaust shows gains of up to 20hp. The valve system worked with the OEM vacuum-actuated system. Although this system is relatively expensive compared to other A90 exhaust options, it offers superb build quality.

3. Remark

Remark is a relatively new name in the automotive aftermarket, however, they are well known for offering high-quality exhaust systems with surprisingly low price tags. Unlike the Capristo exhaust, the Remark exhaust system replaces the tail section and mid-pipe, including the OPF/GPF, resulting in a much louder exhaust note.

This exhaust system is constructed from high-quality 2.5-3″ mandrel bent T304 stainless steel tubing with 4.5″ tips. The tips are constructed from real titanium, giving the Remark exhaust a unique performance look. The electronic valve system seamlessly integrates with the OEM exhaust valve just like Capristo exhaust.

4. Milltek

For A90 Supra owners who want the loudest exhaust system possible without deleting the OPF system, Milltek offers the perfect solution. Constructed from high-quality stainless steel, the Milltek exhaust offers great build-quality.

Their axle-back system is available in valved, resonated, and non-resonated configurations. They also offer downpipes for A90 owners who want the best performance possible.

5. Armytrix

Armytrix is one of the leaders in the high-end exhaust aftermarket and they revolutionized the aftermarket by popularizing valved systems for vehicles which don’t utilize exhaust valves in stock form. For the A90 Supra, they’re offering a catback system as well as downpipes.

The catback is constructed from high-quality mandrel bent stainless steel tubing and includes the front-pipe, mid-pipe, and Valvetronic muffler. The tips are available in Matte Black, Carbon Fiber, Chrome Silver, and Blue Coated finishes. Compared to every other system on this list, the Armytrix exhaust offers the best bang-for-buck.

6. HKS

HKS was one of the first companies to offer an aftermarket exhaust for the A90 Supra and their exhaust is what we’ve chosen to run on our own Project Supra. This system is constructed from high-quality SUS304 stainless steel tubing and features a valved system which integrates with the OEM valve electronics.

This system replaces the OPF, giving you the most performance and sound possible. The tips are titanium with a blued finish, giving the A90 a very aggressive look.

7. MagnaFlow

If you want a modular exhaust which allows for the loudest exhaust possible, Magnaflow’s Xmod Series exhaust is a great choice. By using two small mufflers which can easily be replaced with simple tubing, you can make your A90 Supra very loud.

A unique feature of the Magnaflow exhaust is the tuned chamber resonator, which eliminates all exhaust drone and keeps the cabin of your Supra very quiet. Just like many other exhaust systems on this list, the MagnaFlow exhaust offers a valve system with integrates with the OEM valve system.

Summary

This list only contains six exhaust systems, however, we offer quite a bit more. We also offer anything you else you need for your A90 Supra, including wheels, tires, suspension, aero, tuning, and much more! If you have questions, please contact us. Customer Spotlight: R35 GTR with Rotiform Wheels and More

Since its launch in early 2008, the R35 GTR has been one of the most popular high-end tuning platforms available. In stock form it has the performance to take down significantly more expensive supercars and when modified it offers nearly unparalleled performance. It’s no surprise many R35 GTRs are heavily modified, especially considering the vast aftermarket support.

One of the most popular modifications for the R35 GTR is wheels. While the OEM wheels are decently strong and not excessively heavy, they’re not particularly good looking. Rotiform, as you probably already know, is one of the biggest names in the aftermarket wheel industry and they were the choice for this specific client.

Our client chose Rotiform SNA wheels, with 20×10.5 front and 20×12 rear fitment. With this fitment, they sit very flush with the body and look fantastic. Of course, most enthusiasts don’t stop after they install a set of wheels. Other modifications installed on this GTR include an Armytrix exhaust system, AMS Coolant tank and carbon intake pipes, a Prior Design rear diffuser, and much more!

Video: Armytrix A90 Supra Downpipe Dyno Testing

After nearly two decades, Toyota has brought back the Supra, and while some enthusiasts might not like its BMW DNA, the A90 Supra has already become a popular platform to modify. Although you could argue the B58 under the hood is nowhere near as awesome as the 2JZ, it’s still a great engine with a massive amount of potential.

As with other turbocharged BMW engines such as the N54 or N55, the B58’s exhaust system is fairly restrictive. More specifically, the OEM downpipe off the turbocharger is very restrictive and replacing it can yield massive gains. Our friends over at ECUWerks were testing their tuning solution with the Supra and also installed our Armytrix downpipe to see what kind of performance they could squeeze out of the B58.

On their first pull with nothing but their tuning module installed, the A90 Supra put down 413whp and 491wtq. As you can see from the massive torque figure, Toyota and BMW specifically used a small turbocharger to improve low-end power and throttle response. With the same tuning module installed, plus the Armytrix downpipe, the A90 Supra put down 459whp and 521wtq, representing a gain of 46whp and 30wtq!

We expect to see even larger gains with a full exhaust system in the future. Be sure to check out the video below to see the Armytrix downpipe in action!
1st Pull:

  • Power: 413whp and 491wtq

2nd Pull:

  • Power: 459whp and 521wtq

We Made the Porsche GT3 Sound Incredible! Armytrix Valvetronic Exhaust Installed!

As you probably already know, Porsche builds some of the best sports cars in the world. The Porsche 911, specifically, is one of the most iconic cars of all time. Near the top of the 911 hierarchy, the GT3 and GT3RS offer performance to take on some of the best supercars in the world.

Porsche worked hard to give the GT3 and GT3RS insane levels of performance, but it still had to be a comfortable road car. This need for comfort forced Porsche to use very quiet exhaust systems on the GT3 and GT3RS.

As enthusiasts, we all want our cars to sound as awesome as they look. Luckily for 991 GT3 owners, there are lots of awesome options for aftermarket exhaust systems. This 991 GT3 came to the Vivid Racing shop for a VR Tuned ECU flash and an Armytrix Valvetronic exhaust.

Why Choose Armytrix?

What makes the Armytrix exhaust unique, is the Valvetronic system. The Valvetronic system allows you to switch between being quiet and being loud with the push of a button via the included remote or through the smartphone application; this works by tapping into a vacuum source on your engine and connecting it to the control module.

This OBDII module tells the exhaust valve module to allow the engine vacuum to open or close the exhaust valve. You can also set the exhaust valve module to an automatic mode which will open/close the exhaust valve based on predetermined RPM range or throttle position. For the 991 GT3, this means you can keep your car quiet in the neighborhood, but open the valves and let it scream on the open road!

The Result

After installation, we took this 991 GT3 out on the road to test the exhaust. Thanks to the Valvetronic feature, we could keep the GT3 quiet in town, but once we got out to the open road, we let it sing. We left the catalytic converters in place, since this is a road car and needs to abide with the law. Check out the full video below!
